Things are going to change

Posted by: toxic86  :  Category: General, Uncategorized, Web Design

I have not been posting here enough. I thing the site has become to tired, big, and far to complex. So I have decide it is time for an over haul of the site.

I feel the site needs to become simpler but more interactive. In the next few weeks I am going to decide what to change.

So some parts of the site may go down for a while as changes are made. This may be a timely process as I am very busy at the moment. However I hope the improvements will be worth while.

However you will still be able to email me at the usual address.

The Intuitive Pictures of the Mind Update

Posted by: David Flisher  :  Category: Photography

At the end of this project I have concluded that “The Intuitive Pictures of the Mind” Is a way of seeing and that it doesn’t need or necessarily have a narrative or meaning. Each person viewing each image, has to make there own mind on what it means to them. To me these are images of exploration of how I see. It is a map or guide to my mind.
To me The Intuitive Pictures of the Mind is the Result of millions of the brains calculations. At the time I am looking through that viewfinder or walking around. Calculating the light the dark the shape and form as well as the colour and texture of what I see. This perception combines with my brains idea of aesthetics and allows me to see pictures which I then try to capture with a camera.
To me now I see my photographs like two-dimensional sculptures locked on paper. My art is my seeing, finding and capturing them.

My Current Project: “Intuitive Pictures of the Mind”

Posted by: David Flisher  :  Category: Photography, Uncategorized

I am currently working on a project titles “Intuitive Pictures of the Mind”
Which is looking a my relationship with one of the ways i work, and what is behind it, to gain a greater understanding behind some of my more obscure images.

For me sometimes planing is not always the best way for me to photograph some of my best work comes from those times when i just see pictures and have to capture them. I do not always know the reason for this or why i have to capture them but i just do.

I must stop saying the word just because there is really no such thing as just. What is actually going on with out me really thinking about it, is my brain is working so fast that it is making thousands of calculations every minute taking in what i see around me, because im not doing this deliberately or by making my self do it, i am doing it intuitively.

And this intuitive thought process is telling me when i see a picture and compels me to capture the image. With this project i will be looking at this phenomena more closely and try and find a link to what cause it to trigger and see if there is anything which links all my intuitive together or whether they are each unique.

Sorry for the long absence I have been rather busy but I am back now. I have been forced to make a few changes to the blog due to my trusting nature I had made it so readers who wanted to comment didn’t have to register to post but due to the amount of spam and filth being posted on the blog you unfortunately now have to register if you would like to comment on the blog.

Now on to the better I promised in my last post to some pictures from my holiday

Lucy Wells and Both Sides of the Brain

Posted by: David Flisher  :  Category: Exhibitions, General, Photography, Uncategorized, Web Design

At the exhibition there was alot of intrest in the book by Lucy Wells titled Both Sides of the Brain below is the details of where you can get a copy of the book for your selfs.

Please also come back to get updates to be the first to know of the creation of the website promoting the book Both sides of the Brain.

Both Sides of the Brain by Lucy Wells

The intention of the book is to capture the emotional experience a dyslexic encounters when viewing visual information.

Being a dyslexic myself, reading, writing and spelling are my worst nightmares and can often make me feel disorientated and disheartened. This extreme emotion is what I tried to capture in the book. Hopefully, making the reader of my book feel disorientated and confused will show them how some dyslexics feel when looking at a book, newspaper or magazine.
Each page involved extensive research from fellow dyslexics, teachers, books, internet etc… which helped me to develop the graphics for each page. Therefore, the page shaped like a fish shows how some dyslexics remember a page of text, not for its content, but rather how it looked. I have also tried to make some of the pages incredibly hard to read (R-e-a-d-ingi-s-o….) so the effort put in and the concentration taken mimics that of some dyslexics when reading any text. The last few pages have hidden words within the text making a sentence, again showing the struggle some dyslexics may find in making sense of some text. The stripy dots and zigzag pages are to emphasis the feeling of disorientation.

The graphics within the book are an exaggeration of what a dyslexic may feel/see to show a non dyslexic the emotion and experience they feel on reading text. I also wanted to capture how different a dyslexic sees the world and make it something to be proud of rather than a hindrance.
I hope this gives you an insight into the book.
